4 days in Prague

Monday, July 1, 2019

There was something special about the fancy city named ''Prague'' that brought desire to my wanderlust mind. It's portrayed as a beautiful medieval city in the Czech Republic that reminded me of Florence with it's red roof tops. Soon enough it was added to my bucket list.

My friend Valerie whom I've known since high school has always shared the same interest on travel. We went to London 6 years earlier and still laugh at all the funny stories that happened on that trip, like getting lost in random cities or almost passing out of breath on a never ending staircase in the subway but that's a story for another day.

Valerie and I always had an eye out for Prague, Before we knew it we were at Starbucks booking our flights. We purchased our flights for around 500 US dollars, which in my opinion is a great bargain. The months leading up to our trip Valerie and I's favorite thing to say to each other was ''Were Going!!'' This saying came up countless times in our conversations and texts up to the moment we boarded.

Next thing we knew Spring break had arrived and we were on our direct flight to Prague...
Wait no... BERLIN

We anticipated our trip to Berlin to be nowhere near of exciting then Prague was going to be, and it really wasn't. Why Berlin? We wanted to check another country off our list, one that was within driving distance from Prague. Our stay in Berlin was for 3 days. After a four hour bus ride from Berlin with Flixbus, we made it to Prague. Our bus tickets with Flixbus were purchased online for about 22 dollars (one way). Flixbus is a German company that offers transportation in various European countries.

We stayed at a 4 star hotel called the ''Lindner Hotel Prague Castle''.  The entrance had an artsy medieval driveway that felt like entering Hogwarts. Shortly after check in we took the 20 minute walk down to the city center. The entire walk was a site to see with amazing views of the city and red roof tops. When we finally made it to the famous old town square I couldn't believe my eyes. I remember Valerie telling me I looked like a crazy tourist who was running around in excitement. I certainly was! Her imitation of me running around with my hands in the air still makes me laugh. The first thing I did was grab my phone out to take a photo. Anyone who knows me knows I need to document everything. I gazed at the site of the cathedral for a few minutes and admired how beautiful it was.
First time in Old Town Square

On our first night we met with my Australian mate Sean whom I met in Athens the year before. The three of us had dinner at an Italian spot in beautiful Old Town Square then headed to a local bar. We spent the evening catching up on our lives since Athens. We each exchanged stories on what our lives were like back home. Sean's company was always a good time because nothing was ever serious. He was a wandering soul living carefree in Prague.

The next morning was our first day of touring.

Visit Prague Castle- St. Vitus Cathedral. It is one of of the highlights of Prague with the most beautiful glass windows I've ever seen. A ticket can be purchased in person or online.

Visit the John Lennon Wall- This wall began in the 80's where people from all over the world wrote messages for John Lennon. Today the wall represents peace and love

See the Charles Bridge- this historic site was built in 1357. Woah..

Relax on the waterfront- with many restaurants and cafe's near by. Our favorite about this was watching the swans. This location is actually near the John Lennon wall. When your done you can walk across the famous Charles Bridge back to the city center.
Hang out in the old town square-this square is unbeatable for people watching. It is filled with tourists, families and students.  We even witnessed a school of kids playing soccer in middle of the square. Their were also a number of talented musicians. This was one of my favorite things to watch which Valerie can attest to😄. They were on every corner playing their traditional music. Moments like these were when it hit me that I was in Prague!

The Astronomical Clock- This clock was first installed in 1410. It is one of the most over hyped attractions in the square. Every hour tourist gather around to watch it chime.
Visit the Cathedrals- St. Nicholas and the Tyn are in the square. They are open to the public all day. I entered in the late evening to St. Nicholas Cathedral, it was a small church with beautiful architecture. There was a mass going on as I entered and accidentally let the door slam behind me. I only sat down a few minutes as the mass was in Czech anyway 😀
Trdelník- a common Prague street food is the traditional Slovak rolled Pastry. Served with ice cream and a ton of sugar and cinnamon. 🤪

  • TIP: In Czech Republic the currency is called Czech Crowns, not Euro's surprisingly! It is also relitively cheap in Prague unless you are in the main square. An uber would cost about 3 to 6 dollars. A drink at a bar would be around 70 crowns which is about 3 dollars.

This city has left memories in my heart that will last forever. I will definitely return to Prague one day. As I write this I am reminded to do more that leaves a smile on my face.
Life is too short not to.

    Till next time Bon voyage,

    Daniela ♥
