A blog for the anxious

Thursday, July 25, 2019
At some point in our lives most of us have dealt with a serious level of anxiety that would qualify as a disorder. For some people like me this is just a normal part of life. It's common to get all wrapped up in our jobs, finances, families, relationships, social media. We forget to do more of the things that make us happy. At times it may be about whats going on in our personal life, other times it helps make you alert of danger.

As a person who enjoys watching crime shows and following up on the latest news it's easy to lose faith in humanity and feel worried all the time. Anxiety makes you wanna prepare for everything when in reality YOU HAVE NO CONTROL. The purpose of this blog is to break down the shame.

I worry...
I worry when I get a phone call that it may be bad news.
I worry about my health and my family's health.
I worry if the last thing I said to someone may have sounded stupid.
''What you think you become, what you feel you attract, what you imagine you create.'' -Buddha
So why do we worry? I recently read a book called ''The Secret'' that was based on a theory called ''The law of  attraction''. The book focuses on how to direct your thoughts and how to direct them to having a positive attitude towards life, because realistically your thoughts, become things.  If you focus on the stress and worries of life you most likely will get more caught up in the worry your in. Think positive, think of your dreams, goals, desires and instead you will attract those thoughts.

An example from a time I was anxious was one I put myself in. In 2017 I booked my first solo trip to South America. I remember really wanting to step out of my comfort zone. I remember being super excited. Something inside was telling me to go for it but I also remember thinking after I booked ''What did I do''? ''Why did I decide to do this alone?''. I had anxiety every night leading up to the night I left mostly due to my safety even though I'd be on a tour. I didn't want to express that to anyone especially after how most people reactions were when I told them. People only see through the lens of what they know or from their own experiences, which is not a bad thing. I just knew very few would get why I was doing it. I was on a spiritual journey to finding myself and becoming my own person. I thought good things never come out of comfort zones and life's too short to not have epic adventure's. It turned out, when I went on the trip I had the most amazing time and found myself with like minded travelers who had gone through what I experienced. It taught me so much about myself. Anxiety sometimes is really caused by not knowing how the end of a situation is gonna turn out.

What makes you happy?

To anyone going through anything that may be causing worry or anxiety I advise you to Spend time with those you love. The ones who bring out the best in you. Friends who make you feel good. Good company is everything. Laugh a lot, drive around with friends, blast that favorite song you love. Life is too short to not be around positive people who support and encourage you. Forget the ones who bring you down. Work out! Just one hour of exercise a week can lower your rates of anxiety or depression. Write it down! Pour some tea and write what your feeling, get it all out.

You are bigger then what is making you anxious

The truth is were all trying to figure it out. As a kid, I always thought adults knew the answers to everything, that they had it all figured out. As I've gotten older I've realized life isn't a fairy tale and no one knows what the fuck they're doing. Even the most successful people are trying to figure it out. We all feel stuck from time to time. We get anxious about social interactions, sometimes we feel possible judgment around people when were going through things. Remember people don't think about you as much as you think they do. Someone will always have something bad to say about you, it's just a reflection of themselves. It's OK to not have it together at all hours of everyday. It's important to take things one day at a time.  Lastly, I wanna end this article on an important note- so here it is. Always be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting battles you know nothing about. Be grateful and be you.
